Safety Advice and Information
Chrysalis run personal safety workshops regularly but also provide information, advice and support on safety issues on a one to one basis. This information can also be shared through email.
Ugly Mugs/Crime Reporting Scheme for Sex Workers
Chrysalis has an Ugly Mugs Scheme which street based sex workers can access. The outreach teams will encourage women to report any incidents which happen in their working environment so that the information can be shared with other sex workers and the Gardai/Police if the woman consents.
This can be done anonymously with the aim of warning other women who to look out for or by making a statement to Gardai. The team will make up a brief Ugly Mugs bulletin taken from the initial report and this will be handed to individual sex workers and displayed on the side of the Chrysalis vehicle during the outreach session. If women do not have time to complete a report they can text or phone Chrysalis staff any time after this to complete one.
The scheme aims to reduce crimes against sex workers by creating an early warning system for women, deterring perpretrators and increasing prosecutions. We are currently developing a Dublin wide scheme to encourage and support women to report to Gardai/Police if they have been the victim of any crime.
Case Management and advocacy work (see case management page)
We provide case management to women who need help in working towards their goals, whatever they may be. A case manager will help to coordinate any other services involved in that person's case and make sure each agency is working in an effective way to help the person acheive those goals.
Referrals to specialised services
We provide a referral service and will support women in accessing what they need whether it is health, mental health, social work, social welfare, probation, housing or legal support that is required.
Crisis Intervention Work
Crisis intervention work with someone can include making phonecalls and accompanying a person when they are experiencing a crisis in their life. This may be that their children are about to go into care, they have lost or are at risk of losing their accommodation or are experiencing health or mental health difficulties for some reason. We work with women to make sure they get the support they need while going through this.
Outreach support
The Chrysalis team also provides outreach support to women while they are in Dochas Prison and hospitals or drug treatment centres.
Training
We can provide free awareness sessions for professionals or community groups based in the North Inner City Drug Task Force area on sex work related issues. We also provide training to projects outside the area for a small fee.
